Explaining how to make soap without lye is a little bit tricky because technically there is no way to make soap without lye. You need the chemical lye in order to form soap out of oil and water. Don’t worry I will show you how to get around this.

So you need to lye to make soap. But lye is a dangerous chemical and needs to be handled safely and correctly or it can result in skin burns and other problems.

So whoever is making the soap is using lye and oil. However, after you have properly reached trace with your lye base and your chosen oils, you will start to enter the process of making soap. If you do everything correctly then you will have soap without lye. So that when soap is properly made it does not contain lye anymore. So essentially there is nothing to worry about as long as you handle the lye safely and used the right measurements and techniques.

But the way to get around this when making homemade soap is to purchase a melt and pour soap making kit that comes with a premade soapmaking base that has already used lye and oil to form the soap base. It no longer contains lye. This means you can feel safe about handling it and learn how to make your own soap bars and shapes without worrying about chemicals. This is another reason why a melt and pour kit is a great way for you to start making your own soap at home because you don’t have to really worry about chemicals or keeping your kids safe from lye at this point.

So you can usually find some good premade melt and pour soap making kits at a local craft store or at a craft store online.

And the premade soapmaking base from melt and pour soap making kits contain a solvent which allows you to melt the base so that you can add your own ingredients or fragrances to customize your soap before pulling it into your molds.

In order to melt the base you can use a variety of cooking tools at home such as a crockpot or some other cooker. And you can add your own fragrances or oils such as tea tree oil, or you can add oatmeal or ground coffee beans, but you will want to follow specific recipes and plans in order to make sure it comes out right.

You can use a mold that comes from a kit, or if you want to customize things even more you can get some PVC from the hardware store or use Tupperware or make your own moldings from plastic. In order to keep the soap from sticking to your mold you may use a lard, but some people may prefer Vaseline.

And you should be able to learn a lot about making soap and customizing your own special and healthy soaps at home with melt and pour soapmaking kits.

But after you have used these kids and premade bases for a while you may get bored or decide that you want to learn how to make soap at home from scratch. And you know that you need to be careful and safe with the chemical lye.

You’ll need to do safety gloves and toggles and maybe even do your mixing outside just to be safe. Many many people have learned to handle lye safely at home and you should be able to do this as well as long as you are careful and take preparations that you can become comfortable with handling lye.

There are many precautions you can take to make handling why much safer. I mentioned using rubber gloves and you can also use little plastic baggies when measuring out the why and weighing it on a scale. If the weather is okay you may be able to step outside when you’re mixing the water and the like as well. You always pour the lye into the water and never the water into the lye.

Making your own soap from scratch is a better way to know exactly what ingredients are contained in your soap and keep an eye on exactly how you are nourishing your skin and your family’s skin. Remember that the options on customizing your own soap are almost endless. And don’t let this confuse you and cause you to keep from starting your own homemade soap making hobby. Your own soap bars will also make great gifts for friends.
