When you start making soap and you get the bars down pat, some like to make liquid soap. Liquid soap is a nice alternative to the sometimes messy bars of soap. With liquid soap there is no soap scum build up to deal with and no hard soap to have to clean off of the counter. Finding the time to clean up after your family can be hard enough without having to clean up after soap.

To make liquid soap isn’t nearly as difficult as you would have thought. There are actually many ways that you can make liquid soap, some more difficult than others. One of the easiest ways to make liquid soap is to melt down a bar of soap. All that liquid soap is is a bar of soap that has more water added to it. When picking the bar to use to make liquid soap, it is best to use one that has little to no colors and fragrances added. I say this because those are the things that can be irritating to your skin causing it to dry and flake. A pure castile bar of soap would be best as the main ingredient in them is olive oil which is known to nourish your skin.

Basically the only things that you will need to make this simple liquid soap are a bar of soap, some water, a stove and pot and last but not least, a glass heat resistant measuring cup. Of course if you wish to add fragrances, vitamins or any other additive you will want to have them on hand too. To begin to make your liquid soap you will need to either grate or cube your bar of soap. Once this is done, add the grated or cubed soap to the glass measuring cup with an equal amount of water. Most bars of soap weigh approximately four ounces and so you would want to add in four ounces of water. If you get a bar that weighs six ounces, add six ounces of water and so on.

Now with the soap and water inside of the heat resistant glass measuring cup, place the cup inside of a pot that is about half full of water. Turn the stove top on a low heat setting so that you can start to melt the soap gently. Heat the water to where it is almost at a boil but not totally. You can remove the cup with the soap inside once the soap has become a uniform liquid, meaning that there is no separation of the soap and water. If you do not wish to add any other additives to your soap then you can remove it from the cup and place in the container of your choice.

I personally like to place additives in my soap so that it has some antibacterial action and also can soften my skin. Even the best bar soaps out there can leave your skin feeling a little dry and so I like to add some vitamins to my soap. To do this you can simply take some vitamin A and E gel caps and empty the contents into the soap. You can add about three or four of them to be just right. If you want you can add more, this is just the amount that I suggest. Also, to get some natural antibacterial soap you can simply add some eucalyptus, tea tree or even grapefruit oil to your soap. This is a natural alternative to some of the harsh chemicals that are available to do the same thing. When adding in the oils I only use ten to twelve drops of any or a mixture of the oils. Basically no more than twelve drops total.

This soap will be something that you can give as gifts or have just for your family to use. And what’s great when you make liquid soap is that it is just what you wanted. This soap is something that you can use knowing exactly what is in it.

J.

Explaining how to make soap without lye is a little bit tricky because technically there is no way to make soap without lye. You need the chemical lye in order to form soap out of oil and water. Don’t worry I will show you how to get around this.

So you need to lye to make soap. But lye is a dangerous chemical and needs to be handled safely and correctly or it can result in skin burns and other problems.

So whoever is making the soap is using lye and oil. However, after you have properly reached trace with your lye base and your chosen oils, you will start to enter the process of making soap. If you do everything correctly then you will have soap without lye. So that when soap is properly made it does not contain lye anymore. So essentially there is nothing to worry about as long as you handle the lye safely and used the right measurements and techniques.

But the way to get around this when making homemade soap is to purchase a melt and pour soap making kit that comes with a premade soapmaking base that has already used lye and oil to form the soap base. It no longer contains lye. This means you can feel safe about handling it and learn how to make your own soap bars and shapes without worrying about chemicals. This is another reason why a melt and pour kit is a great way for you to start making your own soap at home because you don’t have to really worry about chemicals or keeping your kids safe from lye at this point.

So you can usually find some good premade melt and pour soap making kits at a local craft store or at a craft store online.

And the premade soapmaking base from melt and pour soap making kits contain a solvent which allows you to melt the base so that you can add your own ingredients or fragrances to customize your soap before pulling it into your molds.

In order to melt the base you can use a variety of cooking tools at home such as a crockpot or some other cooker. And you can add your own fragrances or oils such as tea tree oil, or you can add oatmeal or ground coffee beans, but you will want to follow specific recipes and plans in order to make sure it comes out right.

You can use a mold that comes from a kit, or if you want to customize things even more you can get some PVC from the hardware store or use Tupperware or make your own moldings from plastic. In order to keep the soap from sticking to your mold you may use a lard, but some people may prefer Vaseline.

And you should be able to learn a lot about making soap and customizing your own special and healthy soaps at home with melt and pour soapmaking kits.

But after you have used these kids and premade bases for a while you may get bored or decide that you want to learn how to make soap at home from scratch. And you know that you need to be careful and safe with the chemical lye.

You’ll need to do safety gloves and toggles and maybe even do your mixing outside just to be safe. Many many people have learned to handle lye safely at home and you should be able to do this as well as long as you are careful and take preparations that you can become comfortable with handling lye.

There are many precautions you can take to make handling why much safer. I mentioned using rubber gloves and you can also use little plastic baggies when measuring out the why and weighing it on a scale. If the weather is okay you may be able to step outside when you’re mixing the water and the like as well. You always pour the lye into the water and never the water into the lye.

Making your own soap from scratch is a better way to know exactly what ingredients are contained in your soap and keep an eye on exactly how you are nourishing your skin and your family’s skin. Remember that the options on customizing your own soap are almost endless. And don’t let this confuse you and cause you to keep from starting your own homemade soap making hobby. Your own soap bars will also make great gifts for friends.

If you have always wanted to create your own soaps but thought it was too much work, melt and pour soap kits make it easy.
These handy kits contain a neutral soap base and a mould that is usually made of silicone or plastic. You can then make your unique mixtures by adding fragrance, color, flowers, herbs or essential oils.

Good ingredients to add into the base are natural essential or aromatherapy oils, dried flowers such as rose petals or lavender flowers, oats for an exfoliating effect or herbs that are good for the skin (such as chamomile). Most bases are either white or clear, and you can add colors as long as they are safe to use on the skin. Essential oils are great natural fragrances for your soaps. If you are planning to make a lot of soaps using essential oils or herbs, it is a good idea to get a reference book on oils and herbs to learn about their properties and to avoid any ingredients that may be skin irritants.

Once you have chosen your ingredients, all you need to do is to heat and melt the base material. Small amounts can be heated in a microwave, but large amounts are easier to melt in a big saucepan over the kitchen hob. Once the base is melting, you can add the oils or herbs. The mixture is then poured into the moulds and left to cool down. You can leave it to cool down in the fridge, but once the soaps are ready they can be stored in room temperature.

Once you learn the simple technique of melting and pouring, you can make endless varieties of soaps. Homemade melt and pour soap is a great gift for any occasion and it can be tailored to the recipient’s own preferences.

Soap is a very usable material we need at home. It is used to clean our hands after handling dirty materials. We often wash our hands especially before meals. We can also make our own version of soap at home. With homemade soaps, we can be sure that the ingredients are mild and safe for our skin. Making soap is very easy. It will take two days for us to finish making soap.

The following are the steps on how to make a homemade soap:

 First step

The very first thing we need to do is prepare all the ingredients that will be needed. They are as follows:

- 32 oz. water

- 11.2 oz. lye

- 3 lbs. lard

- 1 lb. coconut oil

- 1 lb. olive oil

- 1.5 oz. fragrance

- 1 oz. coloring dye (optional)

- Accurate weighing scale

- A stainless steel or enameled pot

- 1 plastic container (preferably with lid)

- Stick blender

- Thermometer

- Plastic or stainless steel spoon

- Plastic molds

- Goggles

- Rubber gloves

- Thick apron

- Rubber gloves

- Stick blender

- 1 oz. coloring dye

- Thermometer

- 1 lb. coconut oil

- 1 lb. olive oil

- 3 lbs. lard

- Thick apron

- Goggles

- Plastic or stainless steel spoon

- 11.2 oz. of lye

- 1 plastic container, with lid

- Stainless steel or enameled pot

- Plastic Molds

- 1.5 oz. fragrance

- Accurate weighing scale

- 32 oz. of water

 Second step

Put on the apron and the gloves before working with the soap making. Wear goggles for more protection. The lye can be dangerous an might cause burns, so make sure that your skin and eyes are carefully covered.

 Third Step

Place the plastic container on the weighing scale. Add water into the container and mix in the lye carefully.

 Fourth Step

The lye emits heat and fumes when being mixed with water. Always make sure that you mix the lye with the water in an open place. After that, let the lye cool down a bit. It can take two hours for it to fully cool. It is better to do this procedure one day in advance.

 Fifth Step

Measure the oils and the lard then pour them inside the stainless steel or an enameled container.

 Sixth step

Place the container on the stove and slowly heat it until the fats melt and then forming a uniform mixture.

 Seventh Step

Stir the mixture gently while using a thermometer to see whether the mixture already have the ideal temperature for it. It is usually between 120 and 130 degrees Fahrenheit.

 Eight Step

Take the mixture of lye a day before and mix it carefully with the fats. Add them slowly and carefully always. You can use a spoon to stir on the solution so that they can come together.

 Ninth Step

Using a stick blender, always stir the mixture well. Take note that the texture of this mixture will change. This is because the solution becomes thicker and more opaque after every five minutes.

 Tenth Step

Measure the amount of fragrance that you want to add in, and mix it together using a spoon.

 Eleventh Step

Add a coloring dye in a color that you desire. After that, you can start molding the soap into your desired shape.

Those are the steps on how to make soap.

Many people create and sell their own soaps. As with any business, you need to find a niche in your market. One way to do that is by creating a line of signature soap. For example, if your customer base is mostly people with small children, make soaps for kids. You might make colorful dinosaurs, crayons, cars, stars and princess crowns.

One of the best and easiest ways to reduce the amount of chemicals and additives you bring into contact with your body is to make homemade soap. Buying soap manufactured by large companies can leave you questioning the ingredients. Even products that claim to be all-natural often contain additives that are unnecessary. In a time where negative effects of manufactured goods are discovered every day, you can have peace of mind about the soaps your family uses.

When you create soap by hand, you see every ingredient as it is mixed in. In some situations, you can even grow your own ingredients, such as citrus or certain flowers. Fresh, natural ingredients are better for your family. Many people find once they switch from store-bought to handmade soap, certain skin and allergy conditions begin to clear up.

If you have the appropriate skills and equipment, you can make almost any shape. Create Christmas themes for winter sales and specialty bridal lines for wedding orders. You can also offer gift baskets with themes, such as floral, sports or soaps for those who sew. Many women love to receive soap as a gift, but those shopping for the present will be more likely to choose your product if it stands out.

Even if you do not create soaps to sell, you can make shapes for giving to your own friends and family. For personalized gifts, create gift baskets with soaps that say something about someone’s personality or hobbies. For example, you could make homemade soap in the shape of books for an aunt who is an avid reader.

You can have a lots of fun making soap. Picking your own scents, designing colors and bars and seeing the product form before your eyes can be rewarding. Homemade soaps make unique gifts for friends. You could think of creating a gift basket with some of your best blends. When you make homemade soap, you save money, create gifts and provide healthier products for your family.
